Ashley Brown - A GREAT Belle! by Trudi.

I just saw the Broadway play for the second time, and I have to say I really like Ashley Brown as Belle! She was very warm and likable, and she has a lovely voice. She also gets brownie points from me for actually looking surprised and confused when the Beast turned into the prince (other actresses I've seen were immediately smiling and happy when he transformed). Very nice job by her.

One thing I especially liked in her performance: the "come down to dinner" scene. There was a bit of vulnerability to her - like she was afraid, but trying not to show it. She had spunk, definitely, but she was being brave despite her fear, rather than not being afraid at all. So I really liked that interpretation. Again, it made her very human and likable.

One thing that was a little funny: When she first came out, singing "Little town, it's a quiet village", she had a big smile on her face and looked really happy. So at first it looked like her point was, "This is the BEST village ever! I LOVE it here!" LOL! But I definitely liked her. A wonderful choice for the role!
